5 Tips for Helping Your Child Adjust to New Braces

Starting the journey to a straight smile is an exciting milestone, but the first few days with braces can be a bit of an adjustment for children (and parents!).

As a husband-and-wife team, Dr. Xu and the team understand the importance of a gentle transition. Here are five tips to help:

  1. Stick to Soft Foods: For the first 48 hours, think smoothies, mashed potatoes, and pasta.
  2. Saltwater Rinses: If their cheeks feel irritated, a warm saltwater rinse can work wonders.
  3. Use the Wax: We provide orthodontic wax to cover any brackets that feel “bumpy” initially.
  4. Pain Relief: Over-the-counter relief (as advised by your pharmacist) can help with initial pressure.
  5. Focus on the Goal: Remind them of the amazing smile they’ll have at the end!
